Myths Debunked

There is a lot of misinformation about body piercing out there. Countless internet sources and sociaty as a whole perpetuates these myths. In this section, we will try to debunk some of these myths about body piercing. Paradox Body Jewellery doesn't claim to know everything there is to know about body jewellery but, since we are in the industry for quite a long time, we can securely say what is true and what has no factual basis.

Here are some examples of misinformation about body piercing:

1 - I can strech my piercing straight away after getting it done.
That is a myth. The general time needed to wait before stretching soft tissues such as ear lobes and nipples is at least 2 months. For hard tissue such as ear cartilage and nose, the healing time varys greatly but the minimum wait time would be around 2 or 3 months. Many people have to wait a lot longer, sometimes over a year for their piercing to be fully healed and therefore safe to start stretching.

2 - If I get my left/right ear lobe pierced it means that I'm gay.
Another Myth. A piece of body jewellery placed in any part of your body won't influence your sexual preference. This myth comes from the roots of modern body piercing in the 60's and 70's.

3 - Tapers/Spirals/Crecents are the best pieces of jewellery to stretch with.
Myth. Although it seems like the logical way to do it and its a common practice in many piercing studios, in Paradox Body Jewellery we discourage the use of those sorts of jewellery for stretching your piercing as they can cause irrepairable damages like blowouts. We believe that the best option to do your stretching is using straight non threaded pieces of jewellery like our PMMA Plugs and Flesh Tubes. You should wait at least a couple of weeks before stretching to the next size but we would recommend at least a month. You should also make sure the jewellery and the body piercing to be stretched is well lubricated.

4 - I don't need to clean my fresh piercing every day.
Myth. Keeping your fresh piercing clean is the best way to guarantee a safe and free of irritatiuons and ifections healing process. The ideal way to do it is using a sea salt solution. However, you don't want to overclean your piercing either. Twice a day should be enough.

5 - Any type of salt can be used to make the salt solution.
Again, not true. You should only use natural sea salt to make your solution. Table and pouring salt have loads of added chemicals that can cause your skin around the piercing area to be red, dry and sore.

6 - If I get a body piercing, I will never find a job.
Myth. Although there are a lot of companies that are against any sort of body modification, nowadays is fairly easier to be accepted in workplaces even if you have piercings and tattoos. As for piercings, there is a large range of hiders and retainers to make your piercing more sly in case your employer is not too keen on body mods but it is highly unlikely that you will have any dificulties in finding a job if you have your body pierced.
